Amelia EarhartA Woman Like No Other
Amelia Earhart was a very influential woman in the 1920s. She was born on July 24, 1897 in Atchison, Kansas. She spent her childhood in various towns including Kansas City and Atchison. When she was much older, she moved to California and learned to fly airplanes. In 1922, with the financial help of her sister, Muriel, and her mother, Amy Otis Earhart, she purchased her first airplane, a Kinner Airster. In 1931, she got married to George P. Putnam. He was also very into aviation. The couple became a very successful partnership. Amelia had a huge part in opening up the world of aviation to other women. In 1935, she became the first person to fly from Hawaii to the American mainland. What a feat! In June 1937, Amelia set off for her last flight. She was attempting at the first around-the-world flight around the equator. Unfortunately, after completely nearly two-thirds of her flight, she disappeared of the radar, along with her navigator. Nobody knows for sure what happened to her after that.

I chose to write about Amelia Earhart because I think she is a very inspirational lady. She completed feats that men didn't even complete. She showed that women could do anything that men could. She is also very relevant to the time period of what we are studying about because we are learning about the 1920s and as you can see most of her life took place then, or a little bit before or after. I really enjoyed studying Amelia Earhart and I hope to do something as great as she did in my lifetime.
